Embracing creativity in advancing the advocacy of the 18-Day Campaign to End VAW, the Philippine National Oil Company (PNOC) Gender and Development Focal Point System (GFPS) spearheaded a series of activities, including self-defense training, a spoken word poetry contest, and “Orange Friday” initiatives.
In partnership with the University of the Philippines Diliman – College of Human Kinetics, PNOC conducted a self-defense training session on December 11, 2023. Employees learned practical techniques to protect themselves and assert their right to safety, empowering them to stand up against acts of violence.
To further raise awareness through artistic expression, PNOC hosted a spoken word poetry contest with the theme “Stop Violence Against Women / Itigil ang Karahasan sa Kababaihan.” The competition gave employees a powerful platform to share their insights and personal advocacies. Five departments participated, with the Asset Management Department and Treasury Department earning consolation prizes, the Accounting Department placing third, the Business Research & Development Department taking second, and the Procurement Management Division emerging as the champion.
In another show of solidarity, PNOC GFPS launched the “Orange Friday” initiative, held every Friday of December starting on the 1st. Various units joined by submitting group photos of employees dressed in orange and performing the “stop/end” gesture—a symbolic pledge to help eliminate all forms of violence.
The color orange, symbolizing a brighter future free from violence, serves as a unifying theme to inspire hope and drive collective global action to end violence against women and girls.
These initiatives form part of PNOC’s commitment to support the Philippine Commission on Women’s call for a VAW-free community.
