As part of the activities for the 2024 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW), the Philippine National Oil Company (PNOC) Gender and Development Focal Point System – Technical Working Group (GFPS-TWG) organized two outreach programs aimed at raising awareness on teenage pregnancy and its social implications. These initiatives were held in partnership with two high schools in PNOC’s host communities—Mariveles on December 6, 2024, and Limay on December 10, 2024, in the province of Bataan.
A total of 100 high school students benefited from the program, gaining valuable knowledge from experts in their respective fields. Representatives from the Commission on Population and Development (POPCOM) and local government health offices discussed the causes, consequences, and prevention of teenage pregnancy, while a legal resource speaker shed light on the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children (Anti-VAWC) Law under Republic Act No. 9262, emphasizing the protection of women’s rights and the importance of early legal awareness.
Beyond the lectures, the sessions encouraged open discussions, allowing students to ask questions and share their thoughts on sensitive yet crucial topics. As part of the outreach, each participant received tokens from PNOC, serving both as practical gifts and reminders of the advocacy’s message.
Through these initiatives, PNOC reaffirmed its commitment to promoting education, awareness, and protection for the youth, recognizing that informed and empowered young people are vital to building a safer and healthier future for all.
