PNOC

TAGUIG CITY, Metro Manila—PNOC held its inaugural Vision Day on July 28, 2025, marking a significant milestone in the company’s ongoing transformation. The event gathered PNOC associates and executives in a full-day program focused on the company’s strategic direction and progress made since the adoption of its new vision in 2023.

PNOC President and CEO Oliver B. Butalid opened the program, emphasizing that purposeful action begins with awareness. “Action comes from decisions, decisions come from intent, and intent comes from a keen sense of awareness,” he said. He recalled that July 28 marked the Board’s 2023 decision for PNOC to evolve beyond its role as an asset manager, and pursue a future as a strategic niche player in the Philippine energy sector.

PCEO Butalid highlighted three keywords in the company’s vision statement: Strategic, emphasizing the need to always look forward; Niche, pointing to focused areas of expertise; and Player, which reflects PNOC’s active role in the industry, guided by its Three-Arrow Commitment.

Vision Day featured segments aligned with PNOC’s strategic perspectives—Core Process, Learning and Growth, and Customer. The segments were designed to showcase internal milestones while drawing insights from external experts to further strengthen strategy execution.

Atty. Jocel Isidro S. Dilag, professor at the Asian Institute of Management and a lecturer at the UP College of Law, delivered a session on the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for the Core Process segment. He challenged the PNOC community to view AI not merely as a tool, but as a strategic force shaping the future of work and innovation.

Introducing the “Futures Triangle” framework, Atty. Dilag underscored the importance of cultivating human-centered skills such as empathy, systems thinking, curiosity, and creative problem-solving to build an innovative culture. “We need to understand AI because we want to understand how we can innovate. Otherwise, we will perish,” he stressed.

The Learning and Growth segment featured Coach Michael B. Dela Fuente, an associate professor and Knowledge Management (KM) chief at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines. He unpacked PNOC’s KM framework, highlighting how knowledge sharing, organizational learning, and institutional memory are foundational to improving performance and decision-making. “KM is about getting the right knowledge to the right people at the right time to make the right decisions,” he said.

Lastly, the Customer Perspective segment was capped by a forward-looking discussion on nuclear energy. Featuring Dr. Carlo A. Arcilla, Director of the Philippine Nuclear Research Institute, the session addressed common misconceptions about nuclear power, describing it as a safe, clean, and transformative energy source. “The most expensive power is no power,” he noted. He emphasized that nuclear technology, when properly implemented, could uplift both industries and communities.

More than a learning platform, Vision Day served as a reaffirmation of  PNOC’s long-term goals. The program concluded with a commitment ceremony where associates signified their alignment with the organization’s goals and direction. Each unit signed their respective mission statements, anchored to PNOC’s overarching vision and strategies.

In his closing message, Butalid urged employees to remain focused on evolving with purpose. He called on the PNOC workforce to continue reinventing processes, adopting new mindsets, and contributing to the collective journey toward energy self-reliance.
