As part of its commitment to employee safety, preparedness, and well-being, the Philippine National Oil Company (PNOC) organized two skill-building activities in December 2024 to equip its workforce with practical knowledge for preventing, responding to, and managing emergencies.
On December 5, 2024, PNOC conducted a self-defense training session led by Prof. Richardson Gialogo from the University of the Philippines – College of Human Kinetics where participants learned practical self-defense techniques. The training not only provided physical defense skills but also emphasized awareness and preparedness in preventing and effectively responding to acts of violence—fostering both confidence and personal security among employees.
This was followed by a lecture and demonstration on first aid and basic life support on December 11, 2024, in coordination with the Philippine Red Cross. Employees were taught how to respond to various emergencies, including acts of violence, accidents, and other critical incidents. Hands-on exercises allowed participants to practice essential first aid techniques, and they were also trained in the proper use of an automated external defibrillator (AED)—a life-saving skill in cardiac emergencies.
Both male and female employees actively participated in these activities, reflecting PNOC’s dedication to fostering a safe, resilient, and empowered workplace where everyone is prepared not only to protect themselves but also to assist others in times of need.
These initiatives also served as the culminating activities for PNOC’s observance of the 2024 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW), underscoring the company’s commitment to gender-responsive programs, workplace safety, and community well-being.
