
MALATE, MANILA – The Philippine National Oil Company (PNOC), through its Gender and Development Focal Point System (GFPS), joined the National Women’s Month Celebration Kickoff Ceremony organized by the Philippine Commission on Women on March 6, 2026, at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum in Manila.
With the full support of PNOC President and CEO and GFPS Chairperson Ma. Cristina Sheila C. Cabaraban, members of the company’s GFPS Technical Working Group participated alongside thousands of representatives from national government agencies, local government units, and partner organizations. The kickoff highlighted this year’s theme, “Lead Like the Babaylans, Filipinas!”
In her remarks, Ermelita V. Valdeavilla, PCW Chairperson, emphasized the Philippines’ strong standing in the Global Gender Gap Index 2025, citing the country’s continued progress in empowering women in leadership and governance. She also highlighted the increasing representation of women in key government positions, including within the national Cabinet.
The event was graced by Liza Araneta-Marcos, who attended on behalf of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. In her message, she underscored the government’s efforts to build an economy where women can thrive and actively contribute to national development. She also highlighted programs supporting women’s health and well-being, including initiatives on safe motherhood, breastfeeding promotion, and awareness of breast and cervical cancer.
The event was also graced by DILG Secretary Juanito Victor Remulla; DFA Undersecretary Maria Theresa B. Dizon-De Vega (ASEAN Political-Security Community); DSWD Undersecretary Denise Florence B. Bragas (ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community); and DTI Secretary Ma. Cristina A. Roque (ASEAN Economic Community).
PNOC’s participation in the kickoff marks a significant milestone, being the company’s first time attending the national celebration. The event inspired participants, showcasing the progress and perseverance of women and men in advancing equality across all aspects of nation-building. Beyond highlighting PNOC’s renewed commitment to gender-responsive programs and initiatives within the energy sector, the event rekindled participants’ passion to drive change and to promote recognition of the contributions and capabilities of all women and girls.
