BATAAN, Philippines — In observance of International Coastal Cleanup Day, the Philippine National Oil Company (PNOC) joined local communities, government agencies, corporate locators, and other multi-sectoral partners in a coastal cleanup drive along the shorelines of Bayview Village in Mariveles, Bataan, on September 19, 2026.
Led by Department of Environment and Natural Resources, the activity brought together 156 volunteers from PNOC Head Office, PNOC Industrial Park, key park locators, and corporate partners, including the Department of Environment and Natural Resources–Natural Resources Development Corporation, Team Energy, Petron Corporation, Orica Philippines, and Philippine Resins Industries, Inc. The initiative was further supported by PNOC site contractors, as well as local law enforcement, environmental organizations, commercial establishments, academic institutions, and barangay units.

Prior to the cleanup, participants attended an orientation at Bayview Elementary School covering safety protocols, proper waste segregation, and designated cleanup areas. Equipped with protective gloves and collection sacks, the volunteers then proceeded to the shoreline to collect marine debris and other waste.

The cleanup yielded approximately 2,173.30 kilograms of waste, including plastic bottles, assorted plastic products, driftwood, clothing, slippers, and other debris. PNOC Park Management Department Manager Mr. Calito B. Pena emphasized that the volume collected “underscores the importance of sustained coastal cleanup activities and responsible waste management practices in addressing marine litter.”

Beyond the waste collected, the activity demonstrated the value of bayanihan and shared responsibility in protecting the environment. PNOC’s participation forms part of its annual coastal cleanup initiative and reflects its continued commitment to responsible waste management, environmental stewardship, and meaningful collaboration with host communities, industry partners, and other stakeholders toward cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable coastal areas.
