TAGUIG CITY, Philippines — The Philippine National Oil Company (PNOC) strengthened its workplace safety capabilities through a five-day Basic Occupational Safety and Health for Safety Officer 2 (BOSH SO2) training held from September 21 to 25, 2026.

Facilitated by accredited trainers from the Department of Labor and Employment–Occupational Safety and Health Center (DOLE-OSHC), the 40-hour program brought together selected members of the PNOC Emergency Response Team, Evacuation Marshals, maintenance skilled workers, security force and janitorial personnel. The training provided participants with knowledge and competencies relevant to occupational safety and health practices in the workplace.

In his opening remarks, General Services Division Chief and Emergency Response Team Lead Joseph Edgar D. Ragasa emphasized the importance of strengthening safety awareness and capabilities within the organization, noting that “this training is important because safety is a shared responsibility. Beyond compliance, we must work together to prevent accidents, injuries, and work-related illnesses. PNOC recognizes the importance of continuously strengthening our capacity to identify hazards, assess risks, and apply the appropriate control measures.”

Throughout the five-day program, participants completed modules covering occupational safety and health standards and practical risk management. Working with workplace scenarios provided by DOLE-OSHC trainers, participants conducted hands-on exercises on Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Control (HIRAC), alongside Work Environment Measurement (WEM) procedures. Post-training competency evaluations were also conducted to assess participants’ understanding of the safety concepts and applications covered during the program.

The training enhanced participants’ knowledge of occupational safety and health (OSH) practices, including hazard identification, risk assessment, and appropriate control measures. It also equipped safety officers to respond effectively to various emergency scenarios, reinforcing their vital role in protecting employees’ well-being and fostering a safe workplace where everyone can work with confidence and peace of mind.

The initiative forms part of PNOC’s continuing commitment to strengthening workplace safety and emergency preparedness while fostering a culture that recognizes occupational safety and health as a shared responsibility.
