Mr. Hee Meng Chia, Founder and CEO of Moorfields Capital Pte Ltd in Singapore, shared his innovative insights on revolutionizing the aquaculture industry through aquavoltaics during the event at PNOC on January 18, 2024. The event was attended by representatives from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) and Pampanga’s LGU.
Solar panels, strategically positioned above fish ponds, generate energy without compromising valuable agricultural land, ensuring food security. Aquavoltaics provide economic opportunities for fish farmers while promoting energy sustainability. Mr. Chia emphasized that their objectives of energy and food security can also be a platform to create jobs, increase fish farm productivity, and offer an additional power source. Compared to on-ground Solar PVs, aquavoltaics cover only 40% of water area versus 100% of land area, and panels on water are more efficient energy producers than regular solar panels, which are prone to overheating.
